Please may I leave the table, mummy?

Est. shot features working-class mother and child in posh company.

Posh people leave as mother slouches drunkenly, knocking glasses over

etc. When just mother and child left, above line is spoken.

Mother says nothing, just drops cigarette on to tablecloth, leans back,

chair falls with her. She grabs tablecloth in a vain attempt to steady herself.

Lands on floor, legs apart.

Zoom in on child’s blank expression, which carries a hint of puzzled curiosity.

You’re dark, man. You’re a dark man.

You are Lewisham. I wish you luck, I am

White, man. A drunk, man. Maybe into skunk, man

Gotta be a loser but please don’t push me off the pavement

I’m not what you think I am. No government agent.

I’m me but also I’m dark, man. I feel dark, man.

I’m a white man but I feel dark.
