The images which follow are extracted from the near-finished animated video for the epic track ‘Pink Laundrette’, of which roughly seventy-five per cent of the 9 mins and 15 seconds duration has been edited. The track itself is not quite finished, but the timecode remains the same, and so there will be no problem in synching up audio and video streams.

Art for Art’s sake, or a potential cult classic? Whichever way, what we have so far is certainly not bland, or lacking in imagination. Most sequences are entirely computer-generated, although there is some original still artwork involved, and some shots were put together using a mini-set. Not all of the real-life clips were shot in Paris: we found the washing-line sequences in downtown Marseille, the monochrome ‘riots’ sequences featuring bridges over the Seine are actually abstractions of fireworks on the Danube, which we shot in Budapest in 2003, and the ’68 Paris bus in authentic livery was actually captured on film in Bucharest, 2003 as we were shooting neon sequences for another video. The ‘roulette’ clip was shot in Budapest, and we used other odds-and-ends from locations as diverse as Vatican City and the Berlin Wall.
