I shall be looking for Media Plus European development finance before finishing the ‘White Line’ video animation project. The track is politically cheeky, and the backdrop is a model set in Japan; the final frames will take place in a similar set, but in North Korea. Posters of Mr. Kim on a long boulevard will be replaced by the faces of band members, as a trolleybus treks the white lines on the road surface.

Japanese viewers will know that we have left Japan even before roadside pictograms are replaced with Korean script, since there are no trolleybus systems in Japan. The model set is, however, accurate to the last detail, since all models (usually in kit form) were imported directly from Japan at considerable expense, and most are unavailable in the West, even to specialists. The set took several months to build.

‘White Line’ is basically a mainstream pop track, and I think the video will echo something of the Gorillaz’ recent achievements, without any attempt to copy that style.
