Slovenia (population 1,965,986)

40+ TV Cos. exist in Slovenia. The BBC equivalent is called Radiotelevizija Slovenija, and operates 3 public channels (SCO-1, SCO-2, TV Koper-Capodistria [Italian]) along with 3 commercial stations (Kanal A, Pop TV, TV-3). The latter are available to 80% of the population. Local cable offers 100+ private channels, which are supplemented by 9 regional public channels (non-profitmaking). TV Koper-Capodistria also targets Croatia, running for approx 11 hours per day. First and second public channels have been available via the Hot Bird 3 satellite for 7 years. German, English, Italian, French, Spanish, Croat, Serbian, Montenegrin, Albanian, Bosnian and Macedonian channels are also available.

As a result of a mid-90s crisis due to the arrival of commercial competition, Radiotelevizija Slovenija became more populist, although it is not funded extensively through advertising. Licence fees are collected via electricity bills. Pop TV merged with Canal A, and the result is of little interest or use to eSCape tv, since 80% of all viewing is of US origin. TV-3 is Catholic-run and was launched on Xmas Eve 1995. Links with Christian Democrats.
